What makes South Charlotte & Union County unique
Southeast of Charlotte, a string of towns offers tree-lined streets, old railroad depots and bigger lots in place of skyline views. Matthews and Mint Hill are inside Mecklenburg County, while Indian Trail, Weddington, Marvin and Waxhaw spread across western Union County, where horse properties, golf communities and newer master-planned neighborhoods sit side by side.
Much of the draw is the small-town downtowns. In Matthews, a coffee house, a brewery taproom and a producer-only farmers market anchor weekends on Trade Street. Waxhaw, chartered in 1889 as a railroad town, has turned its Main Street into a walkable dining district. Add Cane Creek Park's 350-acre lake and fall festivals, and it's clear why buyers keep heading this way.
